Liên Đoàn Hùng Vương
My kids have been scouting with Liên Đoàn Hùng Vương since 2019. As a parent, I tried to help out as much as I could, but I didn’t volunteer to take on the website. I didn’t want to step on any toes. Furthermore, I was not sure if I could make the commitment.
In recent weeks, the leaders came to me for help after other parents who understood the importance of having a professional website made the recommendation. They must have seen my work. Of course, I couldn’t refuse.
At first, I agreed to make some improvements to the existing site by making the text readable, straightening out the misalignments, and changing out old photos. When I was granted access to Wix, however, I was horrid with the editing experience. The visual editor and the drag-and-drop interface in Wix were so clunky. No wonder the live site looked so bad. I didn’t even want to take a look under the markups.
I came back to the leaders and told them that I could not work inside the Wix platform. I had to redo the entire site from scratch and we had to move away from Wix. They agreed for me to build the entire site from the ground up using HTML, CSS, and PHP.
For the look and feel of the new site, I used the LDVH blue and yellow color scheme. I chose Public Sans, designed by USWDS, Dan Williams, Pablo Impallari, Rodrigo Fuenzalida, for body text and Hepta Slab, designed by Mike LaGattuta, for headings.
The major part of the website is showing off our scouting activities through photography. From past to present, we have so many photos to play with. If we were to present a slideshow of 30 photos, the homepage would take a tremendous performance hit. I decided to only load one image at a time, but visitors would get a new photo every time they returned to the homepage.
For the new site, I also recommended changing the web address from ldhv612.com to ldhv612.org. I am proud to present Liên Đoàn Hùng Vương brand new website.
